According to 1 John 5:4, our faith is the victory that has overcome the world. What do you need to overcome by faith, and what have you learned this week that will help you in overcoming it?

Learning this week that our faith has overcome the world based on 1 John 5:4, I have realized that I need to overcome my fear of man. It’s one of my biggest and constant struggles that I constantly need to lay down at the feet of Jesus daily. I have learned this week that I can overcome it through God’s Word and through seeing things through God’s perspective and not my own. Also knowing that whenever God asks me to do something, it is for my own good because His goal is not my happiness but my holiness.

Being born again is what allows you to overcome this world, because your faith is not found in man, but in Christ. This week I overcame the burden of my name. For years I felt trapped inside of this body. My name was my identity, and that identity was in my father. He wasn’t the greatest man in the world, but he did his best. Over the past few years I’ve seen him change into a beautiful loving man for Christ. Faith this week helped me overcome my past. I love Dad and I’m thankful for the ways he raised me.

To overcome by faith we must have the Word of God hidden in our hearts! Psalm 119:9-11 says, “How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wonder from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.” We must have the Word of God hidden in our hearts so that when temptation comes we can fight back! This week I was able to learn what it means to be a leader and the heaviness of responsibility you must carry. But to remember that God has already won the battle, so we need to keep pushing to further the number of victors in the kingdom of God.

I need to overcome my fear of what other people think, my fleshly tendencies (pride, laziness, selfishness, complacency), and lack of self-discipline. This week I learned that this will happen as my mind is changed by the Word of God, as I continue to walk with Christ, and fight spiritual warfare and my flesh not by my own strength, but with the Word and armor of God. I also learned that this will happen through patience and enduring. I memorized James 1:2-4 this week which says, “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” It’s a process of dying to self and picking up the cross, but what is so sweet is that 1 John 5:4 reminds me that I fight from victory and not for victory.

To overcome by faith you must have the Word of God. In the Bible it says faith overcomes the world. So to claim our victory, we must know the Word and engrave it in our heart, mind and soul. Having the Word within us prepares us to conquer every trial.

Our faith comes by the Word of God, we are all to hide it in our hearts. This week I have learned that without faith it is impossible to continue to move past the schemes from the enemy or anything else in this world. To stand firm in His word and His truth regardless of how loud the enemy’s voice is. The Lord really spoke to me on knowing His Word and hiding it in my heart; truly that it’s more than just memorizing verses. His word is my weapon at my weakest in the midst of trials to not be wavered.

According to 1 John 5:4, we need to overcome the world by faith. The victory that we receive by being born of God and overcoming the world is our faith. And in Romans 10:17 it says “so then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” So, ultimately the only way to overcome this world is by the Word of God. I always knew the word of God was important, but this week the weight of that importance really grew! God's Word is the only thing that is going to help me get victory in this world, not my disciplines or abilities to get things done. "We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this age” (Eph. 6:12). I need to fight spiritually with the Word of God.

In 1 John it explains that our faith overcomes the world, and in this world we are in a constant spiritual battle. This week taught me how to fight in this battle. The Word of God is the powerful tool we have been given in this constant war, and this week has been teaching me how vital it is to have the Word of God hidden in my heart.

What I need to overcome by faith is simply the Word of God. In 1 John 5:4 it says that our faith is the victory that has overcome the world. Also, in John 16:33 Jesus says that "in the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." We know that our faith in Jesus overcomes the world, we know Jesus has overcome the world, we know that Jesus is the Word, we know that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God; so that's why the Word of God is what we need to continue in our faith overcoming the world. I learned that it's not enough to just hear the Word but to have faith that it's true. Having scripture hidden in my heart is one of the best ways to overcome.
